The Giant Scoliid Wasp is a solitary was in the family of Scoliidae, which make up a collection of 560 wasps worldwide, they tend to be black and often marked with yellow or orange colouring and can measure 2 - 3 inches in length.
This species is a parasitoid of the Atlas beetle, meaning it becomes a host for the wasp's larvae - which eventually leads to the beetle's death. Its sting also has a paralytic effect.
