The Red Lacewing Butterfly belongs to the Nymphalidae family of butterflies. The butterflies striking pattern helps disguise the shape of the butterfly. Its vibrant colours of the dorsal sides of the wings are a warning to predators that the butterfly has a bad taste, deriving from the poisonous host plants of its caterpillars.
Its wingspan reaches 8 - 9 centimetres (3.1 – 3.5 in).
