The Northern Golden Orb Weaver or Giant Golden Orb Weaver is a species of orb-weaver, this particular specimen has been sourced from Malaysia, but can also be found in Japan, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Taiwan, Singapore, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, and Papua New Guinea. It is commonly found in primary and secondary forests and gardens. It is famous for its golden web.
These are stunning and absolutely huge, females can grow up to 30-50mm. It is one of the biggest spiders in the world. Interestingly the spider will bury its eggs instead of hanging them in its web making it unique among the spider species.
