The White Morpho belongs to the Nymphalidae family of butterflies. The species epithet is derived from Polyphemus, a character in Greek mythology, from the small eyespots on the wing. Polyphemus was the one-eyed son of Poseidon and Thoosa.
Its wingspan reaches 10-12 centimetres (3.9-4.7 in).
